Enhance your supports

We’re also here to help you explore additional resources, services, and opportunities to make your supports work for you.

  • We can help make sure all the services you’re involved with understand your situation and support you well. From Oranga Tamariki to Youth Courts, Kainga Ora to clinical specialists and more, we’re ready to work alongside the other professionals supporting you. We’ll use our extensive experience in the disability sector – and our understanding of you and your loved ones – to make sure your mainstream support services see things through a disability lens. So you can get the best possible support.

  • If you’re facing hardship and need essentials like food, clothing, or urgent financial assistance, we’re here to help. Our close ties with the Ministry of Social Development and a wide network of community groups mean we can help you quickly access the support you need most.

For help accessing essentials, call us on 0800 824 5872 and ask to be connected to our Whānau Ora team. You can also let us know you need help with essentials any time you talk with us—whether it’s during a needs assessment or review of your supports. We’re here to help.

  • Sometimes talking about your life, goals and dreams is easier said than done. If you’d like a different approach to your needs assessment or kōrero, you can consider PATH planning. It’s like drawing a map with your whānau to help you figure out what you want to do, and the supports you need to achieve your goals.

  • Safeguarding means more than just protecting people from harm. It’s about respecting their rights, supporting their choices, and helping them stay well and connected to their community

If someone can’t leave an unsafe situation because of their care needs, the safeguarding process helps make sure they get the support they need to live safely and independently.

If you’re concerned that someone you know may be at risk of harm or experiencing abuse, you can contact VisAble. We work alongside VisAble, other government agencies, and community organisations to provide a full safeguarding response.
