Reviews and reassessments
Your reviews and reassessments are scheduled in advance, so you don’t need to worry about calling us to set them up. Here’s how it works:
Reviews
We review supports each year, usually in the month before your current allocation ends. We start by reviewing the information we have about you, and sometimes we may need to speak with you. If a phone call isn’t needed to make a renewal decision, we’ll go ahead and renew the supports. If we do need to have a kōrero, it’s typically a brief and focused conversation. After a review, we’ll send a letter confirming your support package.Reassessment
For the majority of people, a reassessments is done every 5 years to get a comprehensive and up-to-date picture of your situation, and kōrero takes around two hours. When someone requests a reassessment every year but there haven’t been any significant changes in their circumstances, we typically recommend a review instead, as it’s more appropriate. It may feel like we’re saying no to a reassessment, when in fact, we’re suggesting the approach that best fits the level of change.

Important times to contact us
We’re here to support you through life’s challenges, and one of the best ways to do that is by planning ahead. So get in touch if you’re expecting a big change, or if you experience any of the following:
- If you think the support you’re getting from us needs to change because you’re starting or leaving school
- You’re moving out of (or back to) Auckland
- Changes in who provides your support
- Concerns with the person or provider supporting you
- Your living situation changes
- You need more help supporting your disabled loved one or taking care of your own wellbeing
- If you’d like us to work with other agencies supporting you
- Periods of hardship or struggle.

Some aspects of your support package may change over time for a variety of reasons. If this happen, we’ll work closely with you to navigate these changes and explore additional supports from other agencies that can help meet your needs.
