Survivor Experiences Service

The Survivor Experiences Service (SES) will listen to you and can help you request your care records.

What is SES?

SES is a place that helps survivors of past abuse. You can talk to SES about abuse you experienced or saw in places that care for people.

What is abuse?

Abuse can be:

  • Physical – When someone kicks or hits you.
  • Sexual – When someone touches your private parts, or kisses you when you don’t want them to. Or makes you have sex when you don’t want to.
  • Emotional – When someone yells at you. Or says things that aren’t nice.
  • Neglect – When someone doesn’t give you what you need. Or doesn’t look after you.

What will happen when you talk to them?

You can share the abuse that happened in a Private Session. If understanding questions or talking is tricky for you, SES have people to help.

SES can also help you request your records. The records can help you understand what happened to you in care. If it’s tricky for you to read these, SES can help you understand them.

What is being in care?

Being in care means you were in a religous place, in a place run by the government, or other care.

Wellbeing support

You can also talk to them about finding wellbeing support to help you feel better while you access SES. It might be:

  • counselling
  • dance therapy
  • art therapy
  • massage or mirimiri
  • other healing support
