Holiday season schedule 2025

The holidays are fast approaching. We’ll be running a scaled back service from 12.30pm, Wednesday 24 December. Our offices will be closed on public holidays, and regular services will resume on Monday 5 January 2026. If your needs change during the holidays, you can also contact your service provider as usual for assistance.

We know the holiday season can bring changes to routines and support arrangements. This Q&A answers common questions about how your supports might be affected during this time including what’s open, who to contact, and what to do if you need extra help.

Q: My supports are due for renewal in December, when many services pause. Am I going to be without support?

A: Your current supports will continue based on your previous year. When our regular services resume, our team will review your support package to make sure it reflects your current situation and primary disability-related needs, in line with MSD and DSS guidelines. This helps ensure your supports are right for you going forward.

Q: What if I need to get in touch with you over the holiday season?

A: We’ll have a small team available on weekdays (except public holidays). Because it’s a scaled back service, we will be triaging requests so those with the most urgents needs are supported first.

Q: What if my provider doesn’t have support workers available over the holidays?

A: It’s best to talk with your provider early to check their holiday schedule and identify any potential gaps.

If you arrange your own supports, check in with your support workers about their holiday plans and explore options to cover the days they’re away.

Q: What happens to referrals sent during the holiday period?

A: Referrals will be processed up to Thursday 11 December. Any referrals received after that date will be reviewed from Monday 5 January 2026.

Q: Where can I get Carer Support forms?

A: You can download the Carer Support form from the DSS website and send it directly to Health NZ, who manages Carer Support claims.

If printing is tricky, contact Health NZ for help.

Remember: claims must be sent within 90 days of the respite being taken, otherwise Health NZ will not reimburse them.

Q: What holiday break activities are available for disabled people?

A: Our Resource Centre page lists a range of options and supports that might interest you, including:

Q: I need food parcels during the holiday season. Where can I go?

A: You can find local foodbanks on our Resource Centre.
