Featured by One in Six: Supporting inclusive employment in Aotearoa
We are honoured to be featured by One in Six, a new national disability employment resource hub led by the New Zealand Disability Employers’ Network (NZDEN) and Whaikaha, Ministry of Disabled People.
1 in 6 people in Aotearoa New Zealand are disabled. Disabled people are part of every community, every industry and every workforce. Creating inclusive employment opportunities is shared work. It belongs to all of us.
We have been members of NZDEN for more than seven years and were the first disability organisation accredited by the network. That accreditation reflects our ongoing commitment to meeting recognised standards in inclusive employment practice. It also reminds us that inclusion requires continuous learning and improvement.
Research shows that employer attitudes and workplace culture are among the most important factors influencing successful disability employment outcomes. Policies matter, but culture matters more. When workplaces are open, responsive and willing to adapt, disabled people are far more likely to thrive.
We know we do not do this work alone. Our accessibility and inclusive practice are shaped by the insight, leadership and lived experience of disabled people within and beyond our organisation.
We remain committed to strengthening inclusive employment across Aotearoa, alongside partners, employers and communities who share that goal.
