4 November is Purple Tuesday

Today is Purple Tuesday, we’re proud to celebrate accessibility and inclusion, not just in what we do, but in how we work.

We’re the first disability organisation in Aotearoa New Zealand to receive the Accessibility Tick, which recognises our commitment to creating accessible and inclusive workplaces. It means we don’t just talk about accessibility, we act on it.

From recruitment to onboarding and beyond, accessibility is built into how we support our teams. We actively seek people who bring the right skills and share our values, as well as those with lived experience like carers, whānau, and others whose lives are connected to disabled people.

We make work flexible and responsive to individual needs with our hybrid work model, job-sharing options and by offering accessibility support and solutions. And if you’re interested in joining us, you’re welcome to come in for an observation to see how we work. From there, we work alongside each person to make sure their needs are met at every stage of employment.

For Purple Tuesday, we wanted to hear from some of our team who live and breathe accessibility every day. Their words are a thoughtful reminder that accessibility is about belonging and having the same opportunity as everyone.

“For me, accessibility means having equal access to content, services, and work — the basics of being part of society. That includes communication, sensory design, physical access, and digital inclusion.” – Angelo, Support Facilitator
