Enhance your supports

We’re also here to help you explore additional resources, services, and opportunities to make your supports work for you.

  • We can help with support not only from disability-focused services, but also from services for all New Zealanders. From Oranga Tamariki to Youth Courts, Kainga Ora to clinical specialists and more, we’re ready to work alongside the other professionals supporting you. We’ll use our extensive experience in the disability sector – and our understanding of you and your loved ones – to make sure your mainstream support services see things through a disability lens. So you can get the best possible support.

  • Our close ties with the Ministry of Social Development and a wide network of community groups mean we can help you quickly access the support you need most. If you’re facing hardship and need essentials like food, clothing, or urgent financial assistance, we’re here to help.

For help accessing essentials, call us anytime on 0800 824 5872 and ask to be connected to our Whānau Ora team. You can also let us know you need help with essentials during any conversation with us—whether it’s during a needs assessment or review of your supports. We’re here to help.

  • Sometimes talking about your life, goals and dreams is easier said than done. If you’d like a different approach to your needs assessment or kōrero, you can consider PATH planning. It’s like drawing a map with your whānau to help you figure out what you want to do, and the supports you need to achieve your goals.

  • Safeguarding is about more than just keeping people safe from harm—it’s about respecting everyone’s rights and giving them the freedom to make their own choices. It also means helping people stay healthy and connected to their community.

For disabled adults over 18 who are at risk and need care, safeguarding offers extra support when they find themselves in unsafe situations. If someone can’t get out of these situations because of their care needs, the safeguarding process makes sure they get the help they need to live safely and independently.

If you suspect or someone you know is at risk of, or is being abused, you can contact VisAble. We work alongside VisAble and other government agencies and non-profits to provide a complete safeguarding response.
