Your Supports

Ō ake tautoko

Your supports outline the help and services you can access, tailored to your primary disability needs. Think of it as a starting point—it’s designed to contribute to your goals, but it won’t cover everything. Together we’ll explore how you can use the resources available to you, and link you to information that can help meet your other needs.

For those already supported by Kaikaranga

  • We know that life is always changing, and your supports may shift from year to year as your circumstances evolve. This is completely normal, and we’re here to support you through these transitions. We review supports to ensure they align with your current situation, goals, and primary disability needs—and that they’re being used as intended.

For example, as people grow up and move out of the family home, their needs and goals may change. You might achieve a goal or reach a milestone, which in turn changes the level of support you require. Sometimes, short-term situations—like a full-time carer going into the hospital or recovering from an illness—can also lead to a temporary change in support needs.

  • If your circumstances have changed, or if you have any new information that might affect your supports (like reports or assessments) – let us know. We’ll take a look at your supports together, and figure out if it needs to change, too.

  • We’re here to be your direct connection with disability supports funded by DSS. But we can help enhance your plan with other support, too.

  • If your contact details have changed – let us know.

  • If you have feedback about a provider, or want to tell us how we can improve our service, please let us know.

For those new to Kaikaranga

  • Tell us how your day-to-day is affected by your disability, and how we can support you to live your best life.

  • We know that the right support can truly make a difference. While helping you access disability funding is important, it’s designed to complement—not replace—the natural supports in your community and other essential services such as health care, education, and income support.

When we work with you, you’ll tell us how your disability impacts you most and the goals you want to prioritise.

We’ll recommend supports and services you can access, tailored to meet your unique needs and goals. Your supports could involve a combination of Flexible or Contracted Supports offered by DSS, and other government-funded services. We’ll connect you to the right support and information—helping you live the life you choose.

  • How you use your supports depends on the types of support you receive. If it’s Contracted Support, we’ll put you in touch with your selected provider and you’ll build the relationship from there. If it’s Flexible Support, we can help you navigate your responsibilities and manage your supports effectively. And whatever form your plan takes, we’re always here for you.

  • We are a Disability Service Provider and we recognise and respect the rights of individuals with disabilities as outlined in the HDC Code of Consumer Rights. If you ever have any concerns – on our service, or another provider’s – you always have the right to give feedback.
