Yes, Taikura still has a presence. Taikura will focus more intently on its charitable purposes, the aspirations of its founders, and giving back to communities in different ways. In addition, we are a fully-owned subsidiary of Taikura, so our ties with Taikura will remain robust and enduring.

No, we are an independent not-for-profit organisation contracted by the Ministry of Social Development to help disabled people access disability services.
-
The Ministry of Social Development is responsible for setting policies related to disability support and services. They determine who can get support, how the budget for these services is allocated, and the maximum amount of funding that individuals can receive. They also decide what types of disability supports are available for each region.
The Ministry also decides how much funding is available and contracts services from various providers.
-
No, we don’t provide the funding ourselves. The funding comes from our funders. What we do is help manage and distribute those funds to ensure they are used effectively for your support.
-
All our services are completely free.
-
It’s possible that even if you and someone else have the same disability, the support you receive can vary. This is because everyone has different needs and situations. Things like the support you already have from family or friends, your personal goals, and other factors can affect the type and amount of support provided.
-
The reason you’re working with different people is based on your needs. If you require a lot of support and need to manage several aspects of your care, you’ll typically receive one-on-one assistance to make sure everything is handled properly. However, if your situation is more stable, you’ll work with a team of experts who can work together to support you. This way, you get the right level of support tailored to your situation.

Although the EGL pilot funding isn’t available in Auckland, EGL principles are guiding the results we strive for every day. A great example of this is all the work we did during COVID and the Auckland floods, which truly embodied the EGL approach in collaboration with our partners. We want to do more and feel humbled by the support and trust placed in us by our communities, who believe in our vision, mission and aspirations.
