Q & A: Our new name and look
Learn more about our recent name change in this Q&A. We explain the reasons behind it, how it reflects our aspirations, and what you need to do.
Q: Why are you changing your name and look?
A: For over 20 years, Taikura Trust has provided support to you and families. In this time, we have grown so we can better support our communities. Our new name, Kaikaranga, is an evolution of our mission. It’s a significant milestone in our journey, a new chapter in our growth as an organisation.
Q: Are you still connected with Taikura?
A: We still have strong ties with Taikura as Kaikaranga is a fully-owned subsidiary of Taikura.
Q: What’s the meaning behind your name – Kaikaranga?
A: Our name, Kaikaranga, reflects our deep connection to the
Like the kaikaranga who guides people safely across the ātea, we listen, learn, and connect individuals and families to the support they need to live their best lives. Our values reflect this responsibility: putting people first, standing strong in adversity, and nurturing innovation for a better tomorrow.
Q. Why are you doing this now?
A: Our new brand journey started in 2019 but was delayed due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. During that time, our focus shifted to supporting our communities during an unprecedented crisis. Then in 2023, the Auckland region faced significant challenges during the Anniversary floods, which required us to redirect resources to support people and our own teams during this critical time. Amid the ongoing changes in DSS, we are reminded of the timeless wisdom: “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Our sector is navigating critical transformations, and we recognise that this is a challenging journey for everyone involved. Yet, it is a journey we are committed to taking together, standing by your side every step of the way. We believe now is the moment to take that the step forward with our new name and look. This decision allows us to align our identity more closely with our mission and values, while reaffirming our commitment to providing steadfast support to those who depend on us.
Q. Are you still doing needs assessment and services coordination (NASC)?
A: Yes, we do. We still provide the same trusted support you’re used to.
Q. Does the rebrand have any impact on my supports and services?
A. No, our name change does not impact supports and services. The Government funding allocated for supports and services is separate from the day-to-day costs of running our operations. Our priority remains delivering the same high level of care and support you expect from us.
Q. What do I need to do?
A: On Wednesday 26 March you can start using our new emails and use this website for information about our services. All our phone numbers, including individual mobile numbers, will be the same.
